Decentraland is a layer-1 smart-contract platform secured by proof-of-stake: validators lock up (stake) MANA to propose and attest blocks, and earn rewards for honest behaviour while risking penalties (slashing) for misbehaviour. Developers deploy decentralised applications on top of it.
